Bringing vibrancy to a historic town center
The goal of this adaptive reuse was to preserve an existing building resource while bringing new housing and businesses to a central site in downtown Somersworth, NH. Located adjacent to the library, City Hall, and the post office, this formerly vacant convenience store occupied a prime site in a downtown undergoing revitalization.
Our design removed an existing on-site parking lot and provided a terraced garden with street benches to serve both the building tenants and the public. By adding a second floor with three new apartments and two new commercial units, the building creates a new anchor of round-the-clock activity in the town center.
